How to Reprogram Your Garage Door Remote or Keypad
These steps work on most LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers.
To program a remote:
- Find the Learn button. It’s on the back of the motor unit (usually purple, red-orange, green, or yellow) or, on most models made after 2012, on the inside wall control under the flip-up cover.
- Press the Learn button once. If it’s on the wall control, press it twice. The small light next to it stays lit while it’s in learn mode.
- Within 30 seconds, press and hold the remote button for a couple of seconds. The next press will operate the door.
To program a keypad: Put the opener into learn mode the same way, then within 30 seconds type a 4-digit code and press and hold Enter for a couple of seconds.
To erase all remotes and keypads: Press and hold the Learn button for about 8 seconds, until the light goes out. Do this when you move into a new home, then reprogram your own devices.
